Hi all, have been a power boatie for the last 24 years. 8 months ago switched to a 12 x 7m Simpson sailing cat called Antigua. Best move we ever made even though its been a real challenge repairing everything due to the last owners slack maintenance.Really enjoying this new experience.

Hello Paul.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to sailing. I've had a power boat or two myself but sailing now.

You aren't the only one to suffer from the evils of a previous owner. I'm at the end of a 2 year overhaul of a much neglected sailboat. In fact, it's such a common problem that someone started a whole discussion thread on the issue. Check this out to hear many tales of woe. Might make your work go a little easier.

One of my maintenance issues is the old Gibb sheet winch . There ara several threads going back to 07 about spares , would seem out of luck on that score. Both of mine need new rubber inserts that grab the sheets. Anyone out there with same problem and maybe a solution ?

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good to have you here but I don't know about your winch situation. You might try in a different forum. Just click on the forums button on the first line and see what might fit.
kind regards,

Re: Just Joined

Welcome. When I bought my first boat I found out not only was the previous owner not a carpenter but he wasn't an electrician, nor a plumber, nor a mechanic either! Yikes. So I had to work on becoming a real sailor, which meant fixing everything myself. When we bought our current boat this year, as soon as I stepped aboard I saw the previous owner was a sailor with experience and had set the boat up just as I would have. What a difference that made!

Enjoy.
