Just starting out

I've been lurking around for a bit so I thought I would take a moment to say hello. My family has maintained a small cottage on one of our area's local lakes for 70 years so I've grown up around small boats.

Recently, However, I have decided to take the next step in preparations for the future. I have begun construction on a George Buehler designed Diesel Duck 41 in wood. While certainly not a sailboat and not quite a motor sailor, it does have a small sail rig for stability and emergency propulsion.

I'm more interested in this forums information on the cruising lifestyle and the general nautical knowledge. Having never owned a large craft before, I have a lot to learn. I can say I certainly appreciate the depth of knowledge I have found on this forum, so thanks to all for that.

I look forward to contributing to the forum where I can. In that spirit, Just in case people are interested in the home building process, I have a blog documenting my build here:

The Sea Dreamer Project

I'm also doing a YouTube video series that can be seen here:

Re: Just starting out

If you are building this by yourself you have a few years to learn about cruising!
