Landlubber Ho

Greetings to the Forums. I'm a mid-fifties guy in the heart of the Midwest, far from the blue waves and curving horizons many of you know so well. My reasons for being here will become clear with future posts. Thanks in advance for your kind advice.

Sometimes the kindest thing to do is just club someone over the head. I accept this. I do sometimes fire back however.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Nope, no clubbing from me. Which midwest are you in and is it cold there?
kind regards,

I'm in STL, and the weather here is pretty changable. Temps dropped into the 20's for daily highs a couple weeks ago, now today's prediction is just over 50. Had snow over the weekend, maybe 3 inches, melting away today. These are Fahrenheit temps.

Any sailors on the river there? Many years ago I was on a sailing forum run by AOL and had messages from your area.
kind regards,

Re: Landlubber Ho

You sometimes see some powerboats on the rivers, but sailing would be difficult given the interesting navigational features of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. Sailing around here is mostly at Carlyle Lake in Illinois, from what I can tell, and there is probably some going on down on the Lake of the Ozarks, but I think that would be a little dangerous the way people drive boats down there. I have no boat at this time.

Well, I've been lurking out here for a few weeks, and I've come to the point where I have some questions to ask about Life, the Ocean and Everything that might not be completely stupid. However, the amount of discussion required to even give context to the questions goes beyond the friendly banter of a meet-and-greet thread, and I would hate for my introduction to be like that of a drunk who you don't know simply walking up and puking on you. Not the best of first impressions.
