Hi to everyone here.

I recently joined the forum as I found some interesting topics that happened to be on the forum, quite by accident thru an internet search. My wife and I have sailed for 33 years - the last 10 pretty much full time. I am originally from the US, my wife is from Sweden. We officially hail from Sweden these days but have not been home in almost 8 years.

We bought our 78 HR41 in 1980 from the first owner. Although she has undergone several refits over the years she continues to serve us well and she is what we call "home" for many years. We only have internet when we are able to get it thru a wifi connection someplace, so probably will not be real active here as many marinas have good wifi in the slips but not so good on a mooring ball. Although there have been occasions where we have sometimes managed to get a whiff of wifi off cruise ships.

Our boat is currently in Ambergris Caye and we are in the States visiting my parents for another week. Then we have to get back "home" for the holidays because we decorate our boat for Christmas every year. Although the last couple years my wife has gotten a little carried away. She overloaded the inverter last year and we had to run the genset twice a day to keep the battery banks up. We can't afford a slip and shore power. Diesel fuel is cheaper and we're on a budget.

So I guess it was appropriate to say "hi", even though we will more than likely very infrequently visit the wonderful folks here.

Welcome and Merry Christmas! Post a picture once your boat is decorated. I could use a little holiday cheer.

Re: New Members

We'll be sure to snap some photos for the folks here. My wife does more decorating in the cabin than we do on deck. Last year we hoisted a couple strings of lights with the main and jib halyards and tied one string off to the headstay and the other to the boom, then ran them into the mast and down to the mast step. It was supposed to look like a Christmas tree but it had to be viewed from abeam to get the idea. And that Christmas tree pulled 280 watts.

We're going to get some LED lights and to try to do something more creative this year, but I don't know what yet. That's my wife's department
