New members Rob & Sally

Hi folks,

Rob & Sally here.

We have been house sitting for a couple of years, currently taking care of a 60 acre ranch in New Mexico. Off grid, peaceful, beautiful but we have the itch to move on after our current agreement is up for renewal in August / September (Owner wants us to stay another year, everything is paid for, so it is a nice gig).

But our next big adventure is cruising like you all.

If we can be helpers on a sailing rig with an extra berth, that would be ideal to get our sea legs back. We both have sailing experience prior to meeting in 2018, but would like some ease of mind less dramatically re-entering the blue world through helping vs spending time on the hard prepping, then shakedown cruising, and then destination cruising.

I am ex navy, been in the wintertime North Atlantic rollers on a 230' ASW ship. Also med, both black and red seas, as well as through the suez canal. Had to work antennas and waveguide on the top of the mast so I know how to not swing in a sling. I am an engineer that started on engines as a kid, copiers my first post high school job, the navy electronics, then repair tech in industry leading to design and manufacturing engineering. I have every trade under my belt, not an expert but know when to research before a job.
My partner has crewed in New England on monohulls limited to fair weather.
We consider ourselves as cooks, and like to keep things tidy.

Hope to see you moored somewhere lovely!

Welcome to the forum, Rob and Sally. I hope you'll share some of that expertise with people on the forum who have different skill sets.

Re: New members Rob & Sally

Welcome.

I would suggest updating your profile with your general location and your boat make & model or “Looking” in the "Boat" category. This info shows up under your UserName in every post in the web view. Many questions are boat and/or location dependent and having these tidbits under your UserName saves answering those questions repeatedly. If you need help setting up your profile then click on this link: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3308797

I would happily help more if the link above is not enough.

A house is but a boat so poorly built and so firmly run aground no one would think to try and refloat it.
