New sailor signing aboard

Well, here's to many a voyage coming! I've bought Necessity and now it's just a matter of bringing her back from her salvage yard state, refitting her out, buying lots of stuff and, oh yeah, learning to sail!

Hi everybody, and I hope you don't mind all the newbie questions!

Brannick,

Welcome to CF and it sounds like you have your work cut out for you. On a positive note, by doing that work you will know Necessity quite well and that is always a good thing when doing serious cruising to points far and wide.

As to learning to sail, I'm sure Atlanta has some great and cheap sailing programs.

Thanks for the welcome, Deckofficer! I keep telling myself that was the idea, but we'll see!

Pics! Early and often! Welcome aboard, you'll get all the advice you want and then some and it's all worth the price you've paid to be here.

Well, I have the one pic of her in my profile, but hopefully there will be more soon, but clean and masted and with sails.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Necessity seems to be a pretty large vessel. What's your latest project on her?
Most the folks here enjoy offering advice and just remember its worth every cent you pay for it.
kind regards,

Thanks Skipper! Yes, Necessity is a big girl, a '71 Columbia 34MkII. My first project will be to get her off the lot and back into the water at Lake Lanier. The plan is to get her clean, get her mast back up, get sails on her and learn to run her, THEN start a renovation. The wife and I look to be living aboard once she's up to it and hopefully cruising the Caribbean by new years-ish. Tall order, but we're optimistic, we have to be, we're boat owners!
