new to Forum, boat shopping!

Howdy folks,

Myself and Fiancee are fond of sailing and other ocean based activities. We have begun what is most likely going to be a lengthy boat search for a capable and safe boat for major crossings and long amounts of time living aboard during travels. We need room for friends and family as well as scuba and surfing gear. Looking in the mid 50s range mostly. Most boats that meet our criteria seem to be in Europe which poses some difficulties with purchasing.

We live in Lake Tahoe at the moment, originally from Santa Cruz Ca. This fall we will move back to Santa Cruz and sail more. Splitting our time between Santa Cruz and Tahoe has been nice but now we are more singularly focussed on buying a sailboat to cruise on and spending the necessary time getting acquainted with it and configuring it best for our purposes.

In the mean time if you're looking for crew on a larger boat or have a good advice on brushing up on sailing skills in the West Coast US...We'd love to hear from you.

I'll be putting a thread up about our boat search as well.

Fair winds.

First, welcome to the forum. For what you want to do, a 50 footer is not necessary or easy to handle by two as opposed to a 36-42 foot vessel. You might want to go aboard a few boats and get a feel for them. Also, the west coast has many used boats for sale.

Welcome to CruisersForum!

I would suggest updating your profile with your boat make & model or “Looking” in the "Boat" category. This info shows up under your UserName in every post in the web view. Many questions are boat and/or location dependent and having these tidbits under your UserName saves answering those questions repeatedly. If you need help setting up your profile then click on this link: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3308797

I would happily help more if the link above is not enough.
