New to Gemini - Just Delivered to New Bern NC

After 16 yrs on board our Hunter 40, 1988, ( which we loved) we have just moved aboard our 34' Gemini 105 catamaran. We love the space, and of course the main incentive was the low draft, but it is very different and would love to hear from other Gemini owners to get 'local knowledge" and advice. Currently in New Bern ,NC and plans are to head south down the ICW to our usual hang out in Fort Pierce, and if all systems are go back the Abacos . Love to hear from fellow Gemini owners. Thanks and Merry Christmas

Re: new to Gemini , just delivered to New Bern,NC

Hi toni goggs. Were part time live aboards on our Gemini 105Mc #753. and I'm active on here some when were not out sailing ( we usually don't take our computers on board just musical instruments. Our boat is luckly about 15 min from my bussiness and home so we go out sailing lots. I'm also a displaced North Carolina Tar Heal ( not the ball team ) just a 7th gen hillbilly from west of Ashville.

Yes
Most of my relitives came north from BVI in the 1800's when hurricans were really bad and wanted to escape the sea in the Mt's. Learned to sail on Lake Junuluska near Waynesville west of Ashville.

Re: new to Gemini , just delivered to New Bern,NC

Welcome aboard!
We never made it to the Abacos, but have enjoyed cruising the ICW, Keys, Exumas, Berrys, Eleuthera, Long, and several other places. Our favorite is finding our own "private island" or otherwise secluded spot, which is one of the great benefits of a shallow draft. If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to ask. Be sure to join the Gemini Gems Yahoo group...There's 10 ways to fix anything that goes wrong. I keep the entire archive on my computer so I can access the info without a connection.
Merry Christmas, and hope to see you on the water!

If its later than 2003 you have a very capable Blue water vessel. I know I just sailed mine from Fiji to Australia.

Not once did I feel unsafe in her, You have a terrific boat, But the hull slap underneath might get at you if you sail nose to the wind.

I wrecked mine, CRY CRY CRY.

After his delivery trip in 2002, He ripped out all the cherry wood and any thing else that was not wanted in a Blue water cruiser, It was also Blue water certified in 2003,

Re: new to Gemini , just delivered to New Bern,NC

I have an 02 model and we have no cherry wood just teak everywhere. I think there was some changes made but not the wood. I remember it was the rudder system and how the cam cleats lock but It was mentioned that he contacted the company on his trip and had some changes made so they would stay down at 18kt's, but no cherry wood untill the last couple of years with the high gloss cherry wood finish.

Performance cruising, The builders of the Gemini, In amongst their advertising blurb, They have it written up. The different changes they have made since they started,

It hasnt changed much in the last 10 years or so, When you have a good product, stick with it,

Every 3 years or so they changed minor things,
