New Waterlily !

Hello There! Just signed onto CF & looking to participate in many future discussions as well as submission of some good recipes!!! Am currently looking to liveaboard on the Hudson River, NJ side. Looking at 2 boats (c30 & newport 28s) as wanting some experience in living/maintaining a boat and in the near future upgrade to larger...Only single female liveaboard on the marina at least that's what i've been told...Open to all
advice, suggestions for boat refit & preparation...the boating community is the best, none like it out there!!! Many thanks in advance!!! K

Re: New Waterlily !

Welcome aboard ujk1976.
I lived aboard on the Hudson for over 15 years. Up in Rockland County, NY.
I was a year round liveaboard, is that your intent??
I am willing to share what I have learned over those years.

Re: New Waterlily !

Welcome ujk1976.

I am also in the process of buying a boat and living aboard so, we probably have the same questions. This is a great place to hang out. I've been on for a while but mostly just reading posts and gathering information. One lady's boat I considerd buying has been living aboard alone for 11 years. So, you can do it

Jersey gets cold so make sure you have heat! Or, you could just move on down to Florida this fall.

Best of luck,

David

Re: New Waterlily !

So happy to know you, Capt'n!
Where on the Hudson please?
i plan on liveaboard at the Lincoln Harbor Marina.
most convenient to work (only 20 minutes away on good days- via land :-(
On the + side, hoping they still have the fireworks this side for many years to come....Of course, if anyone is visiting the NY metro area in the future, please be sure to stop by....

Re: New Waterlily !

ujk1976,
I lived aboard up in Rockland County, NY, at the Willow Cove North Marina.(Stony Point, NY, about 12 miles north of the Tappan Zee Bridge).
Lincoln Harbor is a centrally located marina, but I am afraid that you might get a little weary of the almost constant wakes from the commercial traffic, and the ferry traffic. I have heard of many people complain about this situation. You might be a little more protected in the closer to shore docks with a smaller (28-30) boat.
Winters can be a bit tough. Shrink wrap, water circulators, plenty of fans to keep the air moving inside the boat, and a reliable heat source are only part of the things neccessary.

Re: New Waterlily !

Capt'n,
Uhmm, checked the Stony Point Area but traffic to work is a nightmare. Also, isn't it bit colder up there? Of course, i could always could sail down to Weehawken, dock & drive to work. As much as i'd love to attempt this, it's just not practical. Thank you for the info about the commercial traffic. Have not heard about the wake problem from the current liveaboards there. Maybe they want company? LOL!
I truly appreciate your recommendations and all are duly noted.
The only commercial traffic i know are the Spirit Cruise boats nearby...
