Newbie from Mississippi

Hello everyone. I'm a relatively new sailor. I've recently defected from power boating to sailing. I became interested in sailboating while down at the marina looking at a 25 foot cabin cruiser that was locally advertised. before leaving I stopped to look at some sailboats and talked to some of the owners. Before I knew it I was shopping for a boat. After a month or so of shopping I located and purchased a 1982 Catalina 22. After some sailing lessons from a co-worker I am officially hooked. Every time on the water has been a new lesson and a blast, so here I am ready to soak up some knowledge!

In the early 80s I bought my first boat, a Catalina 22 fin keel pop top model and I was not new to sailing then. I learned a lot about boat ownership and maintenance but recommend that you still take a Basic Sailing course or just read the book "Start Sailing Right!" very thouroughly so you don't learn any bad sailing habits.

Thanks John. You are the third person who has recommended that book so I did buy and read it. I work with 2 gentleman who frequently race and one of whom also sold and brokered sailboats. I do intend to take the ASA keelboat course as soon as time permits and follow that up with some open water and navigation courses. Thanks to you and everyone on this forum who have been more than helpful.

Thanks I wasn't sure about it when I first bought the boat, but it seem to attract attention so I think I'll leave it.
