Newbie with a question

Hello,
I have been a member here for some time now. Today we finally meet.

Nice to meet you all.

As I'm finally the proud owner of a sailboat, and I'm - at last - getting ready to sail, I have a question for the community about something I need to figure out.

I have posted my problem two times in the right forum, but my thread keeps disappearing after a while, before I even get a response.

What am I missing here?
Thanks everyone.

I was going to bump your original question but I only see this posting. Welcome though

Re: Newbie with a question

I've read that page carefully and made my post elaborate with images to specify. Didn't have any feedback on my post unfortunately.

Are there specific corners in this forum one should avoid? My question was about OpenCPN. Thanks!

There is no place to avoid. I am not sure why your thread disappeared, we will have to check that, but ask your question here.

YOu can also use the Search button and put in "Open CPN" and you will find quite a bit!

Re: Newbie with a question

Welcome.

I would suggest updating your profile with your general location and your boat make & model or “Looking” in the "Boat" category. This info shows up under your UserName in every post in the web view. Many questions are boat and/or location dependent and having these tidbits under your UserName saves answering those questions repeatedly. If you need help setting up your profile then click on this link: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3308797

I would happily help more if the link above is not enough.

Re: Newbie with a question

Thank you all very much! I've updated my profile. It should show up below.

-----8<------snip----

My question is about importing a GPX file from predictwind into OpenCPN. I have tried and searched everywhere, including this forum, but can't seem to find the solution.

I import a route with detailed coordinates (degrees and minutes) with the following result:

For some reason many coordinates are skipped as the route sticks to a grid of some sort.

I've tried all sorts of things but can't find out how to do it properly. My goal is to get the following result:

In the second image I somehow made it work at one single attempt, a few days ago, but can't replicate this result anymore in any way I can think of. So I'm sure the software is able to read and represent the file's route correctly, I'm just unable to figure out how to consistently do it.

What am I missing here?

---->8----snip-------

This was my question. As mentioned, this question was removed from my profile in the OpenCPN subforum, so I'm wondering how I can find the answer here, as CF is the 'official' openCPN forum worldwide.

Thanks for all help.

Re: Newbie with a question

I just found a message from a moderator. He resubmitted my question in the OpenCPN forum. Not sure why this works this way as I got no explanation.

Anyway, Thanks all. Nice to meet here!

PS: If you know the answer to my problem, do not hesitate to answer here. I still have no solution :-). When I find the answer I will copy it to the other thread.

Thanks again!
