Newport Newbie

Hey everybody!

I just joined this site to get some information for a sailing trip that I'm trying to arrange while I'm down in Australia for a research trip. So far it looks like my best bet would be a bareboat charter around the whitsundays.

I am currently a medical student at UC Irvine and started up sailing lessons through the school back in September. While the 14 foot capris are fun and all, I'd really like to upgrade to something larger, (and sail outside the harbor) to help prepare me for this summer.

As a student I obviously don't have much money to spend, so I thought you guys might have some tips on how I can take my sailing to the next step for low cost. I don't know much about the sailing community or etiquette, but I've heard I might be able sail as crew for someone, but I don't know how to arrange that.

Glad to introduce myself and looking forward to the help/support from this site!

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Get down to the docks and tell folks you'd like to crew. There are crew lists you can sign up for or hang around the clubs.
Good luck.
kind regards,
