Pacific Sailors

I would like to send out some holiday cheer to everybody and make a formal introduction... I have been a member of Cruiser's Forum for awhile now however my fiancee and I have finally made the dream come true! We purchased a Hunter 380 the day before Thanksgiving and we are now living the life!

We are currently outfitting the boat in Ensenada, MX and we have aspirations of heading south soon. We need a few cruising items; Baja Wheels for the dinghy, 35 ilb Manson anchor and 5/8" chain, whisker pole, spares for our Yanmar 3J3HE, propane bottle, charts and offshore life raft. If you know of any used items that are fairly close please send me a pm.

We are living in Cruise Port Marina and would love to meet you. Our blog has even more information about us if you are curious, you may find it at pacificsailors.com.

Re: pacific sailors

Mike, was just checking out your site this morning before you posted. Congrats on the new boat.

I have a question....since you are both captains, who is "THE" captian while aboard?

Congrats!! Minney's in Newport,CA is a great new/ gently used store for boating. It's not a bad drive from Ensenada-we got our whisker pole there (& tons of other stuff). They also have cruiser's guides for Mexico & beyond. They have a swap meet once a year -many marinas in San Diego area have swaps too. We were in Ensenada & love it. Cruisers there will have info too.

Re: Pacific Sailors

5/8 chain???? wow is a lot of weight. i use 5/16 on my formosa 41...... 5/8 is larger than 1/2 in, which is damned heavy and difficult to find a windlass ....... and 35 pound anchor, dont care what kind, is minimal for your boat.......have fun and good luck with baja naval--some folks here have reported problems with their below waterline work..... i am still in mazatlan. be safe and smooth sailing.

I'm thinking that was a typo. Probably meant 3/8, which would still be oversize for that anchor.

Re: Pacific Sailors

You are absolutely right Zeehag I am looking for 5/16" chain. What are your thoughts on a Bruce Anchor (fake made by Lewmar) that wieghs in at 40 pounds?

Re: Pacific Sailors

not sure about the lewmar ones-- the originals are good if you can find em-- you might think about used-- can find em easy when the folks with perfectly good bruce anchors are talked into som enew fangled gizmo guaranteed to be theee best thing since gkw....LOL....
my cqr is 45 pounds for a 40 ft 30000 pound displacement full keeler, and holds just fine 'n' dandy--even in 25 kt winds-- i use 130 or so feet of chain in 20 ft water and no problems.
