Sailing Bridge to Bridge

Hello

I'm looking for an opportunity sailing the Pacific ( joining people who do this trip ) from Bridge to Bridge, between Harbour Bridge, Sydney and Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco. It is a long time dream and I feel it is about time planning the journey. As it is now, I can do this between basicly now and in 2014.

Anyone who can advice me or offer me or anything in regards to do such a trip, please respond to my thread or send me an email. I will in return ofcourse answer your message, private or here.

I wonder when is the best time, how many months will it take to do this.
Cooke Islands is a destination which is on my list.
I prefer doing it by Catamaran. Though am open to look into other possibilities.

Bridge to Bridge is my aim, a subsitute could be sailing from Sydney and visit the New Caledonian islands area.

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Rob

Welcome to the forum.

You'd have a much easier time finding a ride from the Golden Gate to Sydney. I could have pointed you at three different boats looking for crew this winter (northern)/spring. The general cruising route from Oz would be to continue west the long way around.

There are a few souls who go the opposite direction, but the odds are not in your favor.

From California departures are generally November to May or June, so you might plan around that. From Oz you can go the Southern Ocean route (might get you to the Cooks) and then up through Hawaii or so, or you can go the Japan route and around the top of the Pacific. Either way is a little more challenging than most Milk Run cruisers want to undertake.

I would recommend studying the wind and currents, as that will show you the more likely leisure sailing routes (or buy Jimmy Cornell's excellent book).

Re: Sailing Bridge to Bridge

@Dsanduril

Thank you

Either way is allright with me, just that I'd love to do the Bridge to Bridge crossing. I could do it this year from November on or next year. How many months it usually takes you think? I could do 3-6 months easily possibly even 9 months. Are there any good ideas finding Milk Run cruisers who would like to have someone on board who is an added value?

I lived in Point Loma, San Diego for a while and do remember there were quite a few who were sailing to Hawaii and looking for people sailing with them. Nowadays I'm in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Europe. I am dutch.

Thanks for the response, appreciated.

Re: Sailing Bridge to Bridge

Wel, thank you ...John. I know it is gonna be such a great experience and journey sailing from Bridge to Bridge. I am able to do this timewise and take off 3-4 months. Might be able to extend it if necessary. So, if you hear anyone within your network, by all means let me know.
