Soooo my new apartment... rocks!

Very new at this. Bought my first boat in November and my cats and I are joining the live aboard world. Im a wanderer. I have spent most of my adult life moving every year or two experiencing new places, people and cultures. Im a sponge for new information and tend to find awe and beauty in even the smallest things. Grew up on a lake and around boats so I do know my port from starboard and some basics so to speak, but a boat on the ocean... I'm finding to be a significantly different world. Here to learn as much as I can before I venture off and make rookie mistakes. (Lots of time to learn as the boat needs a lot of love before we go anywhere.)

I'm pretty smart. I can follow dang near everything. But yes, stupid questions may happen, in accordance with the prophecy, so please be gentle. Thanks!

I would start out reading about boats and starting up conversations with fellow boaters around you about boats.

Enjoy your new digs.

Welcome aboard enjoy the best sleep you will ever experience,
Keep very close eye on your cats, I'd recommend hanging strips of carpet off the main spot they may fall overboard in the slip. Some folks just line their slip with carpet( like a bumper).
Have fun on you boat

Re: Soooo my new apartment... rocks!

Hi David! My significant other who introduced me to this online community, has taught me a great deal already. He is also living aboard his own vessel. I'm learning things from him and others at the marina daily. No one teaches better than those who have experienced it right? Thanks for your response!

Absolutely...nothing beats talking to experienced people and better yet going out and getting experience. Maybe some of those people will be able to go out on the water with you and to help "show you the ropes". This is also a great way of making new friends.

Re: Soooo my new apartment... rocks!

Thank you Oceangirl! I have read that trick with the carpet before and totally am planning on doing that. They are older and have always been indoor cats so currently they are satisfied staying below which is fine by me. Lol. A good and unexpected selling point for me was the layout and the shelving directly under every window. Probably not the best use of space leaving them open for the cats, but they love it so I can't argue!

Absolutely David! I'm a learn by doing kind so that is exactly my plan of attack. Just got the boat but have been hanging out here as a guest for a long while. Its been incredibly educational.
