South Florida to Bimini Crossing Partners

We are looking to do a crossing from the Boca Raton area to Bimini on August 12 (weather dependent) , returning August 15.

Looking for any boats that want to make the crossing with us for safety,

Welcome to the forum. You can also try to post in a few other catagories if this one does not pan out.

Re: South Florida to Bimini Crossing Partners

Welcome.

I would suggest updating your profile with your general location and your boat make & model or “Looking” in the "Boat" category. This info shows up under your UserName in every post in the web view. Many questions are boat and/or location dependent and having these tidbits under your UserName saves answering those questions repeatedly. If you need help setting up your profile then click on this link: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3308797

I would happily help more if the link above is not enough.

If you are doing this for “safety” you are not ready to sail in the ocean.

Re: South Florida to Bimini Crossing Partners

I'm a very low time sailor. Seriously low time. I've done 4 crossings. 1 at night. As long as you pick reasonable weather (which is easy to see) and properly account for the set/drift its fine.

Biggest issue for me was coming into Bimini with the sun in my eyes. Avoid that if you can and get up to speed on the current and local knowledge.

IDK call me reckless, but I just don't think its that big of a deal.

I left from Ft Lauderdale once, and Key Biscayne. I think in the future I'd favor going south before going east. The best crossing in terms of timing, logistics and so forth was leaving from Key Biscayne before dawn and coming into Bimini mid afternoon.
