pirate The journey begins...

It's finally happened...we've bought a boat and are preparing to cast off to cruise the world's oceans. I grew up on and around boats but haven't sailed in over 10 years. My fiancee has never sailed. Wish us luck!!

We'll be casting off from the West Coast in a few weeks and planning to make the Pacific crossing to Tahiti and the Marquesas by mid-May.

It's big, I know...we welcome any and all advice and encouragement. Anyone making similar crossings/timings give a call to the s/v Rain Dog and join us for dinner aboard at any port along the way. I love to cook and to have others to cook for.

Cheers all!! - David and Gia

Re: The journey begins...

David, on my phone I can't see how big or builder. We set out 8-1/2 yrs ago on 65' schooner from Long Beach with girlfriend and 6 yr old daughter. Now completed the loop, in Costa Rica, headed home. Good luck on your voyage!

Re: The journey begins...

Friendly advice - head south to Mexico first to get your sea legs and some skills refreshing.

Have you considered joining the Pacific Puddle Jump event? They are leaving about the same time and can provide you with some support along the way i.e. radio net with fellow sailors, help with visa in French Polynesia, etc. Check them out at Pacific Puddle Jump Official Web Site

Congrats & welcome aboard. What type of boat, and where are you leaving from?
