US Passport Required for Bahamas ?

Hi everyone-
Can anyone tell me if I need a passport to go to Bahamas now. I heard that a BC and ID is not enough as of June 2009.

Thanks

If you're a US citizen you will need a passport to get back into the US, effective June 1, 2009.

We have always presented our passports upon check in. You can obtain the latest requirements firsthand by calling Bahamas Immigration at 242-322-7530.

I know you need a passport for Canada, & Mexico now, not sure about Bahamas, with the new Homeland security measures, you may need one to get back into the USA no matter where you came from.

As Vasco mentioned - it is not the receiving country that will be an issue, if you are a US citizen and wish to return to the US (without significant head ache and costs), you must have a passport for reentry.

Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative

The surge has ended so it usually takes less than four months to get them processed. YMMV.

Yeah, I'll be heading down in November and hope to cross around Christmas. Saw your boat in Vero in May but you weren't around.

Aloha,
You don't need one between mainland and Hawaii.
