Would like to be a volunteer line handler on the Panama Canal

Hi-
I joined the CruisersForum in order to advertise my availability to be a volunteer line handler on the Panama Canal sometime between February 16-19, 2024. I would welcome the opportunity & I have some boating experience.
If interested, I can be contacted at 1-208-867-2991.

P.S. I note that "Boise, ID" is listed in my message as my location. Actually, I am now traveling in Panama.

Re: Would like to be a volunteer line handler on the Panama Canal

There was a little internet cafe on the Pacific side near the Flamenco Island dinghy dock where boats needing crew would advertise on a bulletin board. You could hang out AT the dinghy dock/laundry area and talk to cruisers, as well as post a message at the Shelter Bay marina.
You could also reach out to one of the agents that advertises in those places and see if they'll recommend any boats to you.
Good luck.

Pretty sure there is a VHF cruisers net there but I couldn't find it via a quick Google off my phone. That would be, by far, your best bet. Second would be a trip to Shelter Bay marina and ask around.

Agents make money hiring line handlers so doubt they'd be a good source.

Good luck.

The World ARC is hoping to have all boats transited through the canal by then, but you could contact the Pacific Posse which will follow shortly. Otherwise, post a notice in the Shelter Bay Marina office and you might get a favorable response.

Welcome to CruisersForum!

I would suggest updating your profile with your boat make & model or “Looking” in the "Boat" category. This info shows up under your UserName in every post in the web view. Many questions are boat and/or location dependent and having these tidbits under your UserName saves answering those questions repeatedly. If you need help setting up your profile then click on this link: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3308797

I would happily help more if the link above is not enough.

Re: Would like to be a volunteer line handler on the Panama Canal

All-
I remain interested in being a volunteer line handler on the P Canal between 2/16 - 2/20. I have some limited boating experience, on sail boats & working on a salmon tender in Alaska, but I am without a boat. I plan to be in Panama City by 2/16. By WhatsApp I can be reached at 1-208-867-2991. - Jack
