Re: Yamaha motor sailer

Yes we have seen that one but we don't know much about how they sail or their stability as we sail in gulf waters in south australia and despite googling can't find any info, we have always had mono sail yachts with 5-6 foot keels but are thinking going the motor sailer as we are getting a bit older, any thoughts?

Re: Yamaha motor sailer

Sorry I haven’t sailed on one but looking at the specs I would suggest like most motor sailers that it’s very conservatively canvassed and quite adequately ballasted and should do fine. I have a relatively lightweight 28 foot power/motor sailer with 730kgs of water ballast which in most conditions we don’t even fill due to the amount of heavy cruising gear/batteries/ potable water we have fitted down very low.
With motor sailers or power sailers you don’t usually push hard to windward in strong variable breezes for long distances generally sailing off the breeze in those conditions or powering directly into the wind meaning heavy low down ballast is less critical anyway.
