Re: About to be slammed by IRMA Cat 5

Our boat 'Alacazam' was on the hard in Jolly Harbour, Antigua, when 'Irma' hit earlier today.
We don't know for sure, but the snippets we've heard is that boats stored there came off relatively unscathed.
We wish you well.

It looks like my Bene 52 in Green Cay Marina St Croix made it. What is interesting is that many sailboats on the hook in Christiansted also are making it. Check the webcam. Unfortunately for you guys in Tortolla it looks like boat salad in the Nanny Cay and rod town Marinas.

A little to early to make that prediction but not to early to prepare....just in case.

Re: About to be slammed by IRMA Cat 5

The back wall of the eye is passing that area right now ,I am predicting a total loss for most of the Nanny Cay Boats and Road town..on the hard or in the water.. There will be massive destruction once we get images back..

Expect The Moorings sunsail not to be open for months or longer at least.

good luck!

I haven't seen a Nanny cay image yet but my twitter feed has a pic of Paraquita bay that looks really bad. Shows hundreds of boats in a pile on the beach.

Please post any info on Jolly Harbor when you hear. Our sister-ship, Ocean Angel, is laid up there on the hard for the season while our friends are on the road in New Mexico and they and we're worried about the boat.

Thanks!

Re: About to be slammed by IRMA Cat 5

Here is a pic from Paraquita.

Was there enough warning for a lot of these boats to sail south away from the hurricane or was that not an option.

Have my fingers crossed for all you guys and the residents.

Re: About to be slammed by IRMA Cat 5

I'm in North Miami. In a private home. Tied in the middle of a canal. I'll be in a hotel during the hurricane. Took of all sails and canvas. Closed all seacocks, diesel vent lines, and feed lines. Removed oil from main engine and generator. I inflated two smal tenders in my aft cabin and close forward collision bulk head. Regardless what I do there's not enough bouncy if broken anywhere but the bow. Don't know what else to do.

Yikers! I count eight, possibly nine capsized catamarans in that photo.

The harbor in question is used as a hurricane hole by charter companies. Here is how they set it up. Apparently it has always worked before but not this time.

Hobiehobie I feel your pain I almost lost my boat by Irma, but I called people that I know in the Marina and they tell me that the boats cradled close to the water are gone. That's all the Road town Moorings are in shambles. Do some calling because the webcams are blown away.
Hope your pride and joy is still in the cradle
