I remember with my old 17' runabout, when driving on a big lake in flat water I would sometime get up and stand in the middle of the boat. I could get the boat to turn left or right by taking a step to that side of the boat, and steer it that way like a giant surfboard.

But I didn't get out of the flippin boat!
