Charleston to Jacksonville outside

Hi, I'm sailing south and planning on going outside from Charleston to Jacksonville next week. Any advice for this solo sailer would be appreciated. It would be my longest solo passage.

Watch out for ships going in and out of Savannah.

You might want to go in at Fernandina Beach. Easy inlet, nice municipal marina and mooring field.

Watch weather carefully for your window. Passagefinder.com is good forecast. Plan voyage with chart, know mileage of bailout inlets from your rhumb line. Mayport is boat friendly inlet, so is St. Marys

I live in jax and have sailed St. Johns River many times and can help get you to marina. Write if you want tips.

Thanks for the input! It's funny how a little bit of info goes a long way. I'm looking towards a Thurs departure (tentative)'and will have bail outs prepped. Thanks again.

Thanks, Jibstay. I'm in Fernandina Beach having a beer right now. Would have missed it if it weren't for your recommendation. Cheers!

Earlier the better. The jax inlet has a fast tide look at your tide charts make sure it's after the high tide starts. That will give your a fun ride in depending how far up your going to go.

You may not want to leave Fernandina's downtown ....

If you continue down ICW , watch your chart/markers closely at Nassau Inlet. If you miss the marker you could easily run aground on the Southside approaching the inlet 90 degree turn.

Also as you pass under Sisters Creek Bridge you 'll cross the St Johns current to continue the ICW... If it's a outgoing tide it can get rough at this intersection, could have big ship traffic too .

Enjoy your journey.

Life is good if you Keepa Smilin....
