COPS - what did they do wrong?

This was sent to me by my brother. The better question might be, "Did they do anything right?"

They didn't try to drive away in the bot with the trailer attached.

(These are the guys who patrol our waterways and make us safer, right? Like the FWC guys...)

First mistake, buying the boat.

Re: COPS - what did they do wrong?

Had a similar experience this summer. We had an unexpected severe storm. It came with little warning. Our boat handled it like a champ:-) but we did have to rescue another guy who went turtle. After that was all sorted, heading back to our slip we came across another boat upside down. We circled and looked for crew, thankfully none. Called it in and reported it.
It took an hour for us to reach our marina which is right beside the main launch. Police boat was backed in and floating before they realized no keys. They retrieved it and decided to launch their seadoo. When the truck pulled forward they realized the cable was still attached and dragged the seadoo up the concrete ramp. So they relaunched the boat and hotwired it.
Made me feel much safer knowing these guys were there to come get me if things go south.

No PFDs visible in the boat or on the occupants as they motor proudly away, just to finish with a perfect score.

Re: COPS - what did they do wrong?

Keystone Cops?

In Sydney a few days ago, a 34 fibreglass Police boat ended up on the rocks at Narrabeen. It was the Water Police's boat, thye had divers in the water searching for a car (and driver) that went through an Amrco railing and off the cliff into the water. The divers brought lines attached to the car to the surface. The boat went in, fouled the line/s around the outboard prop/s and they were washed onto the rocks. A total write-off.

Those cops are a hazard to public safety and should be arrested.

Re: COPS - what did they do wrong?

I'm glad they were finally able to get out there and write some tickets for safety violations.

Re: COPS - what did they do wrong?

Most police have at best a high school education. What they get beyond that are usually mail order correspondent courses or junior college stuff. Obviously not the best educated folks around. Plus under US laws, they are immune for the most part from their actions(can not be sued). Mix that with someone else picking up the tab(taxpayers) and you probably can see what the problem is.
