Re: Cruise Ship Costa Concordia - MERGED THREADS

VesselTracker.com reports: "Cruise ship wreck to be dismantled in three stages "
"The wreck of the "Costa Concordia" will be broken up in three stages following a controversial decision to hand the job to the Genoa Port Authority. Genoa will be officially appointed in an announcement scheduled for June 16 after there was mounting pressure from politicians in the provinces of Tuscany and Genoa to keep the work in Italy."

More information is here.

Re: Cruise Ship Costa Concordia - MERGED THREADS

It is almost ready to float away, and now it is down to which way it goes . . . Genoa or near by Piombino, Tuscany.

More info is here.

Re: Cruise Ship Costa Concordia - MERGED THREADS

Costa Concordia is floating today . . .

It has been lifted about six feet, and moved east about 100 feet.

The full story and a video of this initial lift is here.

That is correct. They will use up to ten tug boats to tow it to Genoa.

Re: Cruise Ship Costa Concordia - MERGED THREADS

Great photos here.

There is some concern that because they did not fair / streamline the Fwd caissons more into a bow shape, there will be tremendous Sheering forces even at 2 knots .

I am quite sure they would have done their calculations on that.

Typical court BS.
(From the link)

"However, he will not actually go to jail before the end of Italy's long appeals process, which can take years after the court said he would not be imprisoned or put under house arrest until the whole appeals process is complete."

Re: Cruise Ship Costa Concordia - MERGED THREADS

They have a group that did a dive on the Costa Concordia that was pretty cool. Don't know if this is old news but it was new to me.
