Re: Fastracking to a PhD in Anchoring

I just used the moorings at Deshaies and Iles de Saintes, rode out Beryl in Deshaies. The one comfort I had was our little boat us about one tenth the weight of those 50ft monster cats I was next to. If their enormous windage couldn't break them, my boat is not likely to. I always set two anchor alarms and leave the key in the engine panel.
In many islands where there are moorings, it's illegal to anchor so you may get in trouble for deploying a safety anchor.

This is true and I have seen it enough that I thought it was a general rule.

One thing I have experienced as a "credit card captain" is that after going over hand signals and designating one crew member to please just constantly point at the anchor line (or mooring ball) so I can tell from the helm what is going on, invariably I see the crews' backs and they yell without turning to face me so I can't hear a word of it. And the designee stops pointing at the line. Haha
