Genoa and stay sail upwind

My experience has been it never pays to have a double head rig if you are sailing in vmg upwind point mode. Sheets cracked a bit, to a beam reach, double head rig can work.
It might depend on the size and wear of your headsails and specifics of your boat, ie if your closest tacking angle is 110 degrees, then maybe the double head rig makes sense. But if you have a quality genoa and a boat that is of typical "close-windedness", then putting a staysail in the slot is not helping.
