It’s not an “all about me” world.

Think of the time and money saved by the general public wasted trying to rescue you without knowing precisely where to look.

I don’t want you to spend money looking for me if something goes wrong. That’s my choice, just like I had a "Do Not Resuscitate" sticker on my drivers license. The fact that you think you ought to do it is your problem.

Ya...all that sounds really cool. But I can tell you there is a very large portion of the population when faced with their existence being terminated, that wish it wouldn't happen. I'm being kind with their reaction.

If your solo and fall off the boat an EPIRB is pretty useless.. its on the boat..
Now someone will come back with PLB.. good luck with that.

It's not the reality...its the attitude. Alone or not, when you have a situation that is beyond your control (eg...taking on water from unknown location) The recent whale collision to the KP44 that sank in 15 minutes is a good example of a preferred outcome and because of an EPIRB and other forward thinking solutions.

Unfortunately, the USCG et al isn’t okay with that and will search extensively for you. I know. I did SAR. Get an EPIRB.

That's what my SPOT is for.. and the spare batteries in the ditch bag.
I use my SPOT often so friends/owners can track me and I have 5 pre loaded messages on it from "Alls good, on track", "Pan, Pan Medico.. Send doctor" to "Mayday, Mayday.. Please forward the link to the RNLI, Salva Vidas and alert them"
An EPIRB is an unknown when you activate it till help arrives.

Re: Missing boat out of Mazatlan

IIRC Zeehage stated they DID have a EPIRB.
It may not have worked.
Hopefully we will find out.

I have seen searches called off only for the person to then later be found. And recently there was the fellow who floated from St Martin to Columbia in 28 days with ketchup and sardines or some such and survived.

Frankly we have
EPIRB
IRIDIUM
AIS
PLB in each vest
AIS in each vest
HF
Electronic flares
Traditional flares

And a Lost At Sea letter directing my kids to come to Cruisers Forum for help if the necessity arrives.

I am retired and loving life, I like my ride, I want to keep it.

Wrong they will not look for me considering nobody will call them to begin with.
I did Sar myself for many years . That others may live .
Also my wife was a USCG rescue swimmer back 3 decades ago.

No she did not do a career . Our oldest was born at the end of this month in 1990 and she is a very special needs child . She is 7 to 10 years old most days

3 Third sailor crew Bill Gross seized the boat (sorry but it is a possibility). This happens more often you might think. Captain and wife likely murdered and Gross and the vessel is heading to the South Pacific.
4 Whale sunk the boat in a fraction of a second giving crew little or no time to radio Mayday. Crew either abandoned ship in a liferaft and are floating or all hands perished when the boat sank.
5 Cargo container took 'em out and their "lack of technology" prevented emergency response.Crew likely in a life raft.
yep, it's entirely possible for a boat to sink so fast no time is available as well as other things.
