Mazatlan to Cabo to San Diego. "Thats a trip to the grocery store for this boat" great quote from the boats designer Bob Perry. Obviously Mr. Perry knows the offshore capabilities of this boat better than almost anyone. It would appear that something happened probably pretty quickly to prevent this crew from sending out a distress call. Still hoping hard for a positive outcome.

Re: Missing boat out of Mazatlan

Does anyone know what the weather was like at the time? According to this article the USCG says there were 20 foot seas when they attempted to cross. That really changes the outlook of what might have happened quite a lot.

And the boat had just been repaired (no details what) in Mazatlan, and Gross was brought on board because of his mechanical skills.

So, a just repaired boat, that was questionable enough to hire a mechanic for the journey, into 30 kts and 20 ft. waves. If that report is correct, the trip was doomed before it started.

In my mind's eye I can see a boat coming down a 20' wave and hitting the corner of a semi-submerged container that's in the trough.
Depending upon the place of impact, might that have split the hull open like a cracked egg?
I don't know about the times of the year, but would their planned track have taken them across a whale migration route?

Actually the 20ft seas were forecast to start building the day after they were expected to make cabo

That would depend on the wind direction, and that nothing else went wrong. If it were 15 kts of wind, and 6 ft seas on the nose, and building from there, they would not have made the trip in 2 days. They brought a paid mechanic on board for some reason, so they were expecting something might go wrong.

Of course we can remain hopeful, but the odds are stacked against them, and it sounds like they made a bad call about the departure.

Winds that time of year there are out of the north mostly so winds on the beam and wave period would make a difference ( at least on my flush deck ) she isn't a stranger to a wet ride

Re: Missing boat out of Mazatlan

Any update on this? Hopefully it was just a scare because of boat problems and they are now safe.

Sadly, no, the searching has been called off and the families have reluctantly realized that they are gone,

Re: Missing boat out of Mazatlan

Sad situation for the families. Im sure they still have some hope, as it’s not unheard of people living for weeks and months before being found. Of course, it’s not a common outcome, but one I hope the families can hang some hope upon.
