An easy way to learn Flashing Lights is with the following diagram

very easy,,,,

If the first signal is short (dit) you start on the E
If the first signal is long (dash) you start on the T

any time you see a dit you move your pencil to the left, any time you see a dash you move your pencil to the right

example,,,,,, ...- is V --.. is Z

Try this one,,, it might make it easier but it is opposite the first one.

If the signal starts with a DASH that is the letter T
DASH DASH is the letter M
DASH DASH DASH is the letter O
DASH DASH DOT is the letter G
any time you see a dash you move your pencil to the left, when you see a dot you move the pencil to the right.
Dot Dot Dash is U
if the code is ..-. put your pencil on E then move to the right to I then move to the left U then move to the right F ..-. is the letter F

All right ALL together now

Ummm Duh. Got it now.

(including the words "and down" after "to the right" and "to the left" with your first pic would have done it for me I'm embarassed to say)

How do you know if the first one is a dot or a dash?

It would take me 3 or 4 to find which was the long bugger and which was the short one. "NICOLLE is that a dash or a dot, or is it a flicker.... I reckno he's dotty..............."

By the time I'd work it out he would have finished his first 3 swear words....

O.K. try this,,, take that fancy video camera of yours,,, the one that you videotaped Nicolle sleeping,,,, or should i say trying to sleep,,,, record the lights,, then decode in the cockpit,,,,,,you should then be able to find out the dits from the dashes,,,,and have time to swear back,,,,
