Anyone know the backstory here?

Re: Sailboat grounded on Siesta Key

My guess is beach development and bright lighting attracted the boat by imitating moon light

Those heartless observers aren’t even keeping its skin wet and shaded from the sun!

Re: Sailboat grounded on Siesta Key

This is clearly an abandoned vessel, as some scavenger had already come along and removed the boom from the boat (almost certainly before it ended up on this beach). It's boats like this and the people that abandon them that have led municipalities in Florida to seek anchoring bans in their districts. As someone who lives in Charleston, SC, I see over 20 boats just like this one every day that have been abandoned in the marshes and creeks here. Something has to be done about it.

You're probably right, but still, there is some mystery as to it's location.

Crescent Beach is south of Siesta Key. To get to this position, the boat would need to get out at: 1) Big Pass (most likely), 2) New Pass, 3) Longboat Pass (many miles to the north) or Venice which is many miles to the south.

My guess is the owner was trying to move this POS to a new location and things got out of control...................

You can't sail an unregistered 10ft dinghy with a 3hp engine without getting fined for not having your bureaucratic paperwork in order in Florida. I can not imagine that the owner of this boat will not be haunted down.
