Cool footage of the attempt to tow her out of the mud. Most of the video is hooking up the tugs. Jump to the 50-minute mark to see them pulling. I won't spoil the ending for you.

Very interesting observation. Thx. A good friend just bought one, I'll pass this on to him.

Stu,
Immediately after that I figured out how to turn off the lane assist also had I used a turn signal it would have let me. Very eerie feeling to turn the wheel and the car continues straight.

Similar to the Ever Green the Ever Forward will likely need to be dug out to assist it becoming freed from the shallows.

Re: Sistership EVER FORWARD Run Aground in the Chesapeake

Hard to believe they tried at a low tide and more importantly with the winds pushing water down-bay.

Next attempt April 3 with winches pulling from a pair of anchored barges.

I snipped an image of the video. One can see the channel marker buoys off the stern of the vessel to the port and starboard. She does not appear to be far off the proper channel.

Geez, that sure is muddy waters, visibility must be nil. Is that normal for the Chesapeake Bay to be so mucky?

I suspect they will need to bring a crane and barges to offload some of the cargo to lighten the ship. Those few small tugs don't look like they could drag much of anything stuck in the mud.

Yup, I think they need some real tugboats - not Little Toot and Miss Moran.

Re: Sistership EVER FORWARD Run Aground in the Chesapeake

I've just watched, on marinetraffic, a pair of MSC box boats - one inbound the other outbound - passing each other just south of 'Ever Stuckfast'. More or less close east of the Gibson Island Causeway.
Not quite as big as the Evergreen but big enough anyway, 40 metres beam on one, 48 metres on the other. Channel width is about 210 metres, combined speed of the pair? 2 x 10 knots = 20 knots.
Stuff that for a game of cowboys. Talk about pushing things to the limit.
Oh and it is about 0330 local time there .

Back in the day job our skinny bit - the South Channel Cut - was and indeed still is 400 metres wide. That seemed skinny enough and we weren't dealing with ships nearly that big.
Mind you we would be at full sea speed.

If it's 03h30 local time, it's dark. They probably can't see the other ship and don't know it's there, so why slow down? Besides, there's more than 100m of channel left for them to share. What could go wrong?

I drive a Subaru with this capability. It will resist but it will not prevent movement. Try harder! :-)

Guess you guys haven't or don't drive in a two lane undivided highway in the hills passing (head on) 18 wheelers with each vehicle doing 60mph+??? I like my chances on the wide channel better than that highway. No room for deviating there. it is 100% TRUST. ok maybe .01% luck.

Give me a break. There are 7 AIS transponders going 0 knots at the grounding site, and its a slow night.
