Whisker pole?

I just bought a used spin pole. The seller also gave me a short stout reaching strut and a telescopic whisker pole.

The whisker pole has a reaching strut type fitting on the outboard end. I've never used one with this type end. I would think it might be hard to keep the sheet on it in light air. Is there a trick to using these?

Re: Whisker pole?

If it has the same fitting as a reaching strut on the outboard end, it should have an open sheave and a prong, no? If that's the case, you can rig the prong on the underside of the jib sheet in light air when you set up the whisker pole with your topping lift. The prong should keep the sheet in place fairly well that way.
