This is one of the prettiest night time illumination schemes I have seen recently. You are not going to hit this boat coming into the anchorage at night.

Also note the red lights on top of the masts on an anchored vessel. These can cause confusion if you have not encountered them before (they are for aircraft avoidance). You might also be just able to make out the black ball day shape on the foredeck.
Looks cool, agreed and we were thinking of adding some lights under the bridgedeck (avoids additional underwater holes).
Helps with visibility and does not use a lot of power if it's LED lighting.

Trouble is, that it might harm underwater creatures if this becomes very common.
Did not yet find a study in this, but it is likely to have an impact.

Lol. I wonder if Adolph Hitler would have used a day shape on his yacht...

Unfortunately the underwater lights disturb the mating cycle of turtles, they think that they lights are a "full moon". Numerous studies exist and some locations have banned the use of underwater lights.

Nope, he had crew that would do it for him.

Looks like he did. They are much more common in Europe of course.

This is why I have never done it. It doesn’t seem right. Just look at all the fish that swim up to it. It’s definitely affecting the ecosystem.

We have a bright green LED fishing light that we lower below our bridgedeck (we also couldn’t abide new underwater holes). Fish love it (hence why some countries ban lights for fishing). Generally smaller fish are closest to the light and you have concentric rings of ever larger circling fish swirling around. One time we saw a huge school of small fish that gathered over a couple of hours get decimated by a much smaller number of large fish that darted into the crowd for a feed. Sorry, minnows.

I don’t have an external photo but the light loom extends in a large circle around the boat.

Re: Who remembers all around white lights?

Well one could simply project a movie up onto your sail for viewing by all in the anchorage. Albeit should be rated GP13 or lower so as to not be offensive for family viewing.

I suppose one could also display subtitles, and / or project the sound by wifi for listening by boats a distance off. Or via VHF on some unused channel.

Image below is of the sailing yacht Maltese Falcon's outdoor cinema.

Sailflix.

It is a grand time when families get together at the city park at night to watch.

That is a spectacular sailing yacht with glamorous illumination.

As to the use of the red light on the top of their TALL main mast that does seem to be in compliance with US FAA regulations for obstruction warning lights on temporary structures [which a mobile sailboat is]. Rare indeed but then I too would be red in envy for that ship.

The requirement for use of two or more red lights is for safety redundancy in case one light fails.

Re: Who remembers all around white lights?

Just when I thought I had seen it all in Florida. A new low in the Carolinas. Ha ha ha.

A masthead all-around BLUE light!

That was the anchor light.
