Windy in the PNW

Just checked the Environment Canada weather current weather conditions for Sand Heads Lighthouse at mouth of Fraser River. Winds at 2pm were NE3 knots. At 3pm they were reporting ESE 3 knots At 4 pm, they reported NE70 Knots. SEVENTY KNOTS!! That is some fast moving weather. Conditions had been forecast so hopefully nobody was caught out in it.

I just checked again and now Sandheads is reporting “gusting 83 knots”. I’m thinking maybe the automatic reporting must be on the blink.

Re: Windy in the PNW

There certainly seems to be problems with the auto reporting generally. Buoys like Sentry Shoal in the N and Halibut Bank centrally have been missing readings sporadically for the past couple of months at least. Sometimes just an hourly reading, sometimes it's a longer period. But its definitely blowing this morning with several ferry cancellations as the storm moves through. Gusting to 55 at Comox Airport - 10 AM - here in the northern part of the Strait.

Re: Windy in the PNW

Definitely an "active" weather system, and the barometer is still going down. We had the temperature drop from 7 at 3pm to 0 by 7pm, about 2" of wet snow fall, then an overhead thunderstorm with lightening, then suddenly warming up to 11 overnight as the wind kicked up a bit. A good day to be looking at weather reports from inside at home

Welcome to November. Was out once when winds reached 110mph at Friday Harbor. Highest recorded. Off Victoria the day before with 80 mph winds.
Stay safe.
