Wireless Remote Helm...?

So I'm minding my business at the marina, when I see a boat owner of a high-end 48' yacht screaming down the fairway up on the bow of his boat. No one else is on deck or at the actual helm of the boat. He's running it completely with a wireless hand-held remote helm. I've seen him many times run the boat and dock the boat from the bow using this wireless remote. He seems confident and competent enough in using the remote, but I'm just wondering how safe it is...? I also wonder, technically, how legal it is, given no one is at the actual helm of the boat, heaven forbid something might go wrong. Any thoughts from you safety, rule-wonks out there...

Lots of boats have dual helms, unless there's a rule about them having to be mechanically connected, I don't see an issue.

Isn't an autopilot pretty much the same thing? You've assigned that duty to a device, so you can properly tend to more demanding chores, that can't be 'automated'.

I also don’t see it breaking any rules. Seems the he is at the helm. Now is it wise to do in a marina is another story.
