Stu, what Dan said. However, what us Colonials call "canned" food is usually called "tinned" food by Brits, since it is put up in "tins" aka "tin cans" even though they aren't made from tin anymore. So, "tinned beef" is canned beef. If you can call that stuff beef.


US Marines are also still called "jar heads" because their helmets were actually stamped out by the Mason(Ball?) jar company during WW2.


Ynglish can be one of the more complex languages in the world, when you consider how much of it is idiomatic.
