Re: Best Coffee To Be Had Anywhere?

If you're in the States and have a little room for a couple 5-lb bags of coffee beans, I'd go to this web site:

Tierra Farm Organic Raw and Roasted Nuts and Dried Fruit - Dark Roast

All the beans are fair trade, from 3rd world countries, and fantastic. If you order over $100 dollars, it's free shipping. We like dark roast, and usually order both Nicaraguan dark roast and Papua New Guinea dark roast.

We're cruisers for short periods (still dreaming about owning a boat), so we always bring our coffee with. Boil water, add ground coffee, wait 5 minutes and drip through a filter. That's how we make it in New York city, too.

Hope this is helpful.

So what is it with BRITS and coffee? Isn't Dockhead a BRIT? Shouldn't he be asking about the best TEA anywhere? :big grin:

Actually........it's a fact that tea consumption in Great Britain is down.....coffee consumption obviously is up....a fair amount.

It's a very interesting historical topic.

Tea is easy...

1) set the kettle on to boil
2) when it starts to steam fill the cup with hot water
3) return the kettle to the stove to come to a rolling boil
4) pour out cup, add tea
5) pour water of leaves set timer for 7 minutes
6) miss the timer going off
7) pour out cup a second time, start back at 1

Usually for me it takes 2-3 times before I remember the timer, but if you do...

8) remove tea bag, add sweetened condensed milk to taste, bask in the knowledge that you are English and everyone else isn't.

Chiriqui is right on the other side of the mountains from Bocas del Toro on the Caribbean side of the isthmus.
Second that one... 62 Coffee brands in Panama and the best of the best come from Boquete on the slopes of the Volcan Baru. Nothing like waking up in the still eternal springtime of Boquete smelling all the roasting coffee. Used to be real hard to get outside the country but thanks (?) to the Internet, it is now a lot more available outside the local area.

Only problem with Boquete is it's too damn cold... Only make the run from Bocas when I run out of good coffee, and then I take my long johns

At least I can get my Seco Herrerano without leaving Bocas Town.

Having sailed with him I can confirm he is one of your countrymen. However, as he is one of the good guys, The Queen allows him to use one of her rivers to moor in.

That could be about to change, we are now growing tea in England. Also those huge American coffee conglomerates aren't paying their share of taxes so post Brexit folk are voting with their feet.

Re: Best Coffee To Be Had Anywhere?

In the Dominican Republic, if one travels around in the coffee / cocoa regions, you will run across locally roasted coffee that is roasted in a large drum over an open pit. Fire roasting for lack of a better term. I am a coffee enthusiast, and I have never had such delicious coffee as was found in the campos of the DR.

Re: Best Coffee To Be Had Anywhere?

The very best coffee makings are LEWARK. Coffee available in SE Asia and I guess elsewhere as well.... Best brewed coffee found in same areas in food courts and small restaurants is coffee brewed with the coffee grounds contained in a cloth sock thing... The brew is as black as your hat but not as strong as it looks...one or two of these brews and you are well set up for the day..it is just marvellous!!

Re: Best Coffee To Be Had Anywhere?

Kona Hawaii is a good place to buy excellent Fresh coffee beans, or just coffee.

I'm in the PNW now and prefer store bought Yuban coffee on the boat.
Needless to say I'm not a fanatic but do love my morning cup of Joe.

"Cowboy" coffee works for the stout of heart. Put any coffee in a pot with water and boil it or percolate it. Pour into your cup thru a coffee filter if you want to remove grounds before drinking .... if you dont like drinking the grounds.

Not sure if it's still there, but 10 years ago, the best espresso was to be found at the PRADA Boutique at the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan, Italy.

I don't drink anything else!
(and it costs me less than half of the Tierra Farms price).

If I had to name the most memorable I'd say Turkish brew in a colleagues home in rural turkey. Coffee was good in Vietnam too. Also like a good Cuban espresso.
