Calling all Brits and Scots

I always thought Scotch Eggs were made with peeled, boiled eggs but a gourmet food magazine's recipes appears to use raw eggs in the shell. They say the yolk is just right after cooking. Showed a perfectly cut egg in half, but I think it would be tricky to cut through a Scotch Egg shell and all. If this is how they are served in pubs, how does one eat them? I want the straight skinny from a real limey. How does your pub make them. How does your mum make them?

Re: Calling all Brits and Scots

Like wot Phil said, never seen any shell in a scotch egg, me mum made them with hard boiled eggs shelled, so does every cook I have ever sailed with.
Would never have thought of scotch eggs as gourmet food anyway

Re: Calling all Brits and Scots

I have never, ever seen an egg shell in a Scotch egg. My MIL makes them with boiled eggs. I think the "gourmets' were trying to get creative. Would be a little like trying to turn a sausage roll into a fine dining experience. lol

Scotch eggs with eggs still in their shells?

I. Don't. Think. So.

This gourmet food magazine you were reading... was it (how can I put this) an American magazine? ...possibly written by someone from one of the [cough] Southern states?

Re: Calling all Brits and Scots

I spent a week in Edinburgh once and ate haggis every day, never tasted any peanut butter. Nice place, would like to visit for longer next time.

Re: Calling all Brits and Scots

The magazine was Bon Appetit. Either I missed something or they did. Thanks for the input.
