Thanks the only issue with that site is it doesn't represent the places Cruisers go to like St Marteen etc, however is good for comparing Populated areas.
My intent was more the out of the way stuff. Merry Xmas

You didn't include a couple other key items. Bottle of clean skin sauvignon blanc wine = $5.30 and a case (24) of 5% alcohol beer = $25.50. Boneless, skinless chicken breast on special = $4.80 a pound if any one cares. All prices include all taxes.

We have been going back and forth between the states and NZ now for 13 years and overall manage to keep our monthly spend about the same between the two countries. Some things are definitely more expensive in N.Z. like the beer, protien, and insurance, but fuel is definitely cheaper in the U.S.

New Zealand does not subsidize our agriculture producers no where near the extent they do in the U.S. and Europe.

Have a great XMAS. Cheers.
Lol yer and rum, why is the rum always gone??? $5/litre at StMarteen...

Re: Cost of living indicator for cruisers.

I come on a total of Euro 34,70 = USD 45,11 in Holland.

Half of it is petrol and diesel, followed by the minced beef. Also dairy-products are quite expensive. Cheese is about USD 2,00 per 150 grs.

Ground beef.

Or more commonly called simply 'ground meat' in the USA.

If someone wants ground veal or ground pork or ground turkey, then one specifies the other meats. But 'ground meat' is usually used when talking about minced beef.

The lowest price must be in Malaysia. I don't have the detail necessary for a proof. But fuel was practically free at RM1.70/liter. That's what ... AU$0.50??? That's delivered to the boat by friendly laborers, too. Food had no significant cost at all from a 'western' perspective, however one needed to be flexible on the menu ... for example ... do humans actually eat minced beef? Foreign food items actually cost a measurable amount. Local produce cost but pennies. Quality medical care is cheap to. Cheap, peaceful, modern, friendly ... but just a bit boring socially ... There are probably other comparable countries.

I spent some time in Nha Trang too - 1968 - I eat C-rations mostly. I dont remember but I think the food costs were pretty low at that time - we were more interested in ammunition in those days!
I'd love to cruise to Vung Ro Bay again! Great spot when the mortar rounds werent flying!
I spent the night with the 5th Special Forces - great bunch of guys!

Re: Cost of living indicator for cruisers.

It sure looks like Asia is the place to make your dollar go the furthest. I'd be interested in Mexico too. I was there in January but can't remember the prices. They were inexpensive though.

I guess I should have a little party since this is my 3000th post ... Yeah yipee horah. Ok party is over.

What about countries like Uruguay and Paraguay? Rarely that someone mention those two.
