Only thing better than Marmite is Bovril. Also from the UK (or South Africa).

Dear President (apology accepted), the King speaks -

That orange cheddar cheese 'food' was (is?) absolutely terrible stuff that forced down the throats of tens of thousands of innocent Aussie boys and girls. It was disgusting stuff and hard to know why it was considered to be food. Really, it could be stored in a hot cupboard for months without changing taste, colour or texture; how could that be a food. Not even the cockies would touch it. A wedge of ancient dried out laundry soap was more palatable and certainly more nourishing.

However it could be stomached if disguised with Vegemite.

Later on, someone got the bright of idea of trying real cheese (a cheddar) and the
classic cheese and Vegemite sandwich was born. The rest is history.

If short on bread, use a Sao instead.

I accept!

But... what the heck is "Sao"?

Best wishes to you from the Great White North where-we-have-no-bread-substitution-items-called-Sao,

Could one substitute Vegemite?

I am afraid I have a problem. Someone unknown (who just might be my youngest offspring) (shudder) left this in my kitchen. In New England.
When will it be old enough to safely dispose of? Do I need to wait for a hazardous waste collection day?
Please advise.

This is only a baby sized jar so the contents will be consumed very quickly. After, remove the plastic lid and safety ring and dispose as appropriate for plastic.

The glass container can re-purposed for any other use pertaining to a glass jar.

Easy peasy

If you use a two sided safety razor, the blade can reused for months (even years) if you use the inside of this Vegemite jar to re-hone the edges. Pop it inside the empty clean jar (vertically). Press with finger and push it around the inside of the jar. Turn the blade over and repeat.

Bush shaving 101.

My (Indonesian) wife once THREW OUT my Vegimite because it was past its Best By date. Yes, THREW IT OUT!! Needless to say, divorce lawyers were called immediately. Vegimite never spoils. Those that are unkind would say it's already there the moment you buy it off the shelves.

The real question should be why aren't you eating it fast enough?

There is still a thousand guinea purse awaiting the person who can whistle Waltzing Matilda within five minutes of eating two dry SAOs.

Hot Damn!!! A new president has arisen. You are hereby nominated, confirmed and elected to that role... a lifetime appointment (until you can con someone else to take over).

Ahhh.... you do understand that the primary role of prexy is to shout rounds for ALL other members at each and every meeting of the club... doncha?

Thankfully,

Jim

Salvation Army Officer (SAO)

see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAO_(biscuit)

Salty but otherwise tasteless and VERY dehydrating.

Again, lasts forever in a hot cupboard - essential qualities for Aussie foods in yesteryear - thus also good for maritime stores.

Well a Vita-Weat is food, SAO not so much but SAO's do have convenient foot print for other non-food items like Kraft processed cheddar slices.

YMMV
