Food alternative: Soylent

Hey guys and gals,

Recently I stumbled upon this little post here about a nutritive alternative adequately called soylent by it's maker.

How I Stopped Eating Food : Mostly Harmless

This guy basically looked up all chemicals needed for the human body and put them in one shake. He claims to feel way healthier, it to be cheaper, quite tasty and it won't spoil. Sounds like kind of perfect for sailors right?

And best of all, apparently it is all dissolved in your body, so no more shitting while rocking the waves!

Can't say I have heard of a worse proposition LOL.
Sounds like it would be hopeless for the soul.
And long term for the alimentary tract. That actually needs to have things shifting through it fairly quickly to prevent absorption of toxins.

Apparently my age shows. Not everybody understands reference to the classic movie, I am sure.

I don't think I could choke down a product called Soylent. Is it a bad joke? No need to eat, drink, and enjoy food for the rest of your life? Bet it will be popular...

Re: Food alternative: Soylent

there are quite a few sailors who survive on beer, crisps and free happy hour spicy chicken wings in the caribean.............they must contain most of the important food groups...

they must know something we don't!

pity when the spanish and portugese colonised the free world they were more interested in finding gold than passing on their eating habits.

what a different place the world would be without the likes of monsanto and mcdonalds........modern slave food

Re: Food alternative: Soylent

OK fess up, Soylent Green is from the movie of the same name. A sci-fi flick, it forecast a future with so many starving people, they simply did away with anyone over 60(?) processed the dead into crackers named soylent green, then fed the stuff to the population without telling them what it was made from.
Since we enjoy fine dining and good wine aboard, we will pass on the new food supply, even if not made from "recycled" people.
