Found a Freeze Dried Source!

Freeze Dried Vegetables at NorthBayTrading.com - Free Shipping Over $99

Wider variety, small enough amounts to suit me.

And here's another. Between the two, a wide variety of veggies and fruits available in small enough amounts that I'll have room for the variety.

Re: Found a freeze dried source!

This freeze dried food is pretty expensive. It would triple my food costs. I can keep raw vegetables on board for a long time. Don't see a need for the extra cost of freeze dried food. It could be ok for a weekend sailor but for me I much rather get fresh food as I travel. If you travel like I do, purchasing local foods gives you a better sense of how the locals live. But for liveaboard's traveling from one country to another, freeze dried foods would be hard to get and not very practical. Kingwoodie

Re: Found a freeze dried source!

Thanks! Good to have a few veggies tucked away, just in case.
Have you tried them yet? Ay good?

To the op also look at www.beprepared.com it's the emergency essentials catalog. They have freeze dried Fruits and veggies, sprouting seeds/supplies as well as everything else. Good prices and varieties and great quality. They are an emergency supplies catalog and have lots of cool stuff besides food. Got 2 - 3 month supply of emer supplies stashed all over our 28' camper in case of hurricane evac.

My grandparents used to vacuume pack, can and basically put away all kinds of food. They were not sailors but just members of a generation that did not have easy access to fresh veggies in winter. I remember us grand kids shelling beans and shucking corn on hot summer days. We got $.10 a worm lol. I wish I had picked up more of their skills and "want-to"...it's waaaaayyyyy easier to just spend the $$$ in the catalog. Course we're not retired yet and not provisioning for a cruise...or maybe I'm just lazy!
