Here's a 5 gallon bucket system with air pump for growing large plants but I would think the kratky system would work just as well just keep the water lower.https://youtu.be/5Y0rbxnGcE0

Re: Going Green Garden Club

Growing large plants in 5 gallon buckets gets a little complicated. the problem is with large plants you probably need 30 + gallon container for the kratky system. https://youtu.be/csfbm_pTBKg

Re: Going Green Garden Club

Plastic window planter boxes make great containers for growing hydro. Either dripline or deep root. Pipe will work but you need a quite large diameter to prevent the root balls from plugging the system up.
A few azealia (?) baskets and some heydite or clay pellets good to go.
Deep root you need a good airsupply to prevent root rot, with bubbler stones that make tiny bubbles. Dripline you need a bubbler in the holding tank.
You also need a good supply of fresh water to replace what you lose through transpiration and evapouration, don't want the nutrient concentration to high or you will burn the plants. Ph is also important for some plants.
Ebb and flow is another alternative that is quite simple to implement, either a total loss hand water system or a pump/drain system that recirculates the "juice". Vermiculite works good in these setups for a growth medium. Make sure it is not the insulation kind as it is treated, get the gardening stuff.
Same you can't substitute Roxul insulation for Rock Wool.
