Uhmm.. like, err, that's the home of the fifteenhunnertbuck toilet seat, isn't it ;-)? MILSPECS are great. They have their place. My galley sink ain't one of them :-)!

On another thread this morning someone was seeking help regarding a malfunctioning relay box for his windlass. I just had a disagreement with the relay box for by Lofrans capstan. But then, that particular device doesn't comply with MILSPECS, tho I think that that's the kinda gear that ought to. Anyway, the relay box fell in line after a brief appearance at what I think USN people call a "captain's mast". As it happens a replacement would have cost just about the same as that nifty, slick appearing sink grating.

You takes yer pick and pays yer money...:-)!

It's also possible that this price is for government contracts!!

Walmart, Rubbermaid, ten bucks or so. Nice concept but then you've got all the finicky "rubber" coated rods in the grid to clean up and around, a real PITA in short order. A friend of mine has had one in the kitchen sink for decades. Nice if you've got a scullery maid to keep things clean and shiny. Cheaper than psychiatry if you have OCD to deal with. Just not something most people really crave.

The wire grill for the sink is not a Marine product. I found it online here at Efaucets. I believe they sell to builders (home builders)
https://azhara.wpengine.com

Anyway, they have low priced ones and (as you know ) higher priced ones. I purchased the one that fit our sink.

Here is the sink. I'll agree it's overpriced.

You could cut dri-dek to the right shape. Put a little circle where the drain is so you could open or close it.

It is obvious the original poster was attempting to be helpful by sharing a useful addition to their sink. while the "pricey" responses are a matter of perspective the ridiculing tone of some of the responses is quite uncalled for. I for one appreciate knowing something like this exist.
thank you, TSL

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking. They sell for $7 or so per square at WestMarine for 12"x12" sections. Snap a couple of sections together, cut it to fit, make your hole or whatever you want, wherever you want it. Now I'm thinking of making one for my galley sink after seeing this post. I just made one for the bottom of my icebox a week ago. This stuff is a breeze to work with.
