Has anyone built a ROOT CELLAR for fruit and veggies in the tropics? Does it work?

I like to juice veggies several times a week so I was wondering if anyone has figured out a NON-refrigerated way to keep vegetables and fruit from spoiling in really warm weather? Someone suggested a root cellar. Have you built one that actually works?

Thanks

BTW: This "root cellar" isn't for a sailboat. It is for a small Toyota motorhome that I'm going to travel the US, Mexico and Central America in.

Wow, fun trip!
Sorry, don't have a root cellar design, we use a deep storage space aboard our boat. Cool, dry( below waterline)

Have fun

for root vegtables a box full of sawdust works well, other stuff like pumpkins and butternuts will keep for a long time in a dark locker as long as they are cusioned from bruising.
keep fruit away from veg as fruit release gas that will cause veg to ripen and then rot
