Katadyn Desalinator Pickling Question

We purchased a Katadyn Survivor 35 hand pump desalinator and tested it. Works great, but there are no pickling instructions. Contacted Katadyn, but no answer yet. We have the pickling powder, but are not sure if the filter should remain full of the pickling solution of if we should run it dry before storage?
Any help would be ... helpful

The membrane should remain full of the pickling solution , if it dries out it will be no good. They bind up and go bad if ever allowed to dry out any length of time

You can download the PDF manual for the 35 at the KATADYN site. It contains the maintenance instructions.

I recall that my old Power Survivor manual told me to run the unit for 15-20 seconds after the pickling solution was consumed to dry out the membrane. The new manual has been rewritten:

Turn on the watermaker and run it until almost all of the membrane preservative has
been drawn from the container and foamy membrane preservative solution is ejecting
from the reject brine hose. If there is a chance that the watermaker will be subjected to
freezing conditions, continue to run until air is being ejected from the reject brine hose.

Re: Katadyn desalinator pickling question

Thanks for the info all. The PDF was especially helpful as we bought ours from Navy surplus, without the manual.
