Life is GOOD! Local beer?

San Diego now has, like, 86 craft beer producers. We are the center of the beer universe. And to make things even better, Stone Brewery is opening up a satellite brewery and restaurant about a mile away in Point Loma. They also have 2 liter sealable bottles that you can bring in for refills. It's their Arrogant Bastard Oaked Ale. Once you pay the deposit on the bottle, the ale is $12 a refill, cheaper than a six-pack. Life is good. At my favorite bar, at Southwestern Yacht Club, the only yellow fizzy beer left is the Miller Light. Everything else is real beer.

Well, that's stretching things a little bit, but it is probably the best beer city in California and possibly on the West Coast, although I'm sure Portlandites would have something to say about that.

They wouldn't be the only ones. In fact, it seems like just about every major city has 86 micro breweries anymore, even on the east coast. Seattle will definitely spoil you on this front, as will Portland. Probably more here though. Our yard is right between Maritime Pacific, Hales Ales, and Red Hook. All within walking distance, and that's just the big ones!

Yeah, if you ask me, the ABITA brewery in Abita Springs Louisiana will beat 'em all, and the Lazy Magnolia folks in the Kiln, Mississippi are right up there with Abita

Those 2 liter sealable bottles are quite popular here too. There are four breweries in my town (pop. about 100000) offering what is called "Zwickelbier". You take your bottle to the brewery, and they fill it directly from the fermentation tanks. So you get really fresh beer, unfiltered and unpasteurized. Keeps about a week in the fridge, but usually doesn't get anywhere near a chance to spoil around here...

Re: Life is GOOD! Local beer?

stone breweries is good..arrogant bastard rocks..even to a non drinker..lol some occasionally isnt gonna kill anyone..lol
here in mexico they have a brewery in each state, it seems-some are crappy..modelo negro is decent, found that lmost everywhere--and victoria is aqwesome good, even to someone who doesnt drink beer--i can drink victoria--isnt too bitter. semi dark, and looks to go down smooth,as many do drink this..indio is also a good one.
pacifico, corona, and tecate are for marinating chickens...same with dos equis and many others gringos are known to swill.....

Well, here it is, evidence that beer was critical to the establishment of civilization: Beer Lubricated the Rise of Civilization, Study Suggests | LiveScience. Whichever of our locales claims superiority, we are, at least, centers of modern civilization. What an irony that it originated in the Tigris-Euphrates region.

Lads and lassies , the number of breweries is not an indication of good beer, merely confused palettes. Lol

Oh man ... I'll on that Gord. Sleeping Giant Brewery has been a g-d send to this parched northerner as we suffer through the long, long winter.
