I do like my Mr Coffee in port
We have 880ah @ 24v
Plenty of storage and batts never get below 80%

But I don't like raping them

Hot water system pulls near 70 amps, but I never run it at night, only during the day (11am to 1pm) when the solar panels take care of it.

Induction cooktop would be similar load and without sun or genset, battery rape.

I take it not lfp then because if I could have double my lfp ( have 250ah at 12vdc)
I would even consider the possibility of a portable induction cook top.
I just don't have the room for more than 200watts fixed solar. I abhore running my generator .

No, not lfp
AGM
Not about to drop $10k plus on battery to run a cooktop not that I believe lfp would be the miracle cure, still going to be sucking amps that need to be replaced and still going to be rapeing batteries in the dark.

In reality, we only use the oven for baking.

The drawback is I have to run a generator bake, but it is quite capable of cooking a pizza and it’s good to run the generator a couple times a week for an hour or something.

Note: we are installing or getting a griddle for the galley and actually are putting in a Korean bbq table out in the aft area. The oven just isn’t used enough to dedicate a large area, the weight and propane hookup.
Looks very nice, but you never told us exactly what it is

More like just under 4k for 500ah at 24v with 400 usable
Same as 800 of any lead acid chemistry on a daily basis .
As to the idea of "raping" the batteries . The batteries are for storing the solar power to be able to use it when the suns not shining. May as well use a candle to light the boat

I have been using a Force -10 3 burner w/oven & broiler for going on 45+ years 2 boats). Works great; see no need to change Now!

Not here they aint
50 ah @ 24v is around $1300
500 ah @ 24 is around $13000
I daresay there are cheaper sources but....
My 880ah @ 24v AGM (8x220ah 12v) cost $3000

So you'd be happy to run a HWS pulling 70 amps for a couple of hours?
What about an arc welder?

I suspect batteries will be short lived
And after pulling all those high amp loads lets not forget you need to get it back in - more hours of genset use - even more solar panels?

With my 250ah lfp I would have no issue running the 70 amps you state for a waterheater for up to 2 hours straight no problems. The issue would come with putting the ah back with my 200 watts solar alone but if I had several days to recharge then no problem .
Lfp don't need to be fully charged infact they actually don't like being fully charged.

Lfp can take massive amounts of charging power. My 250ah are capable of being charged comfortably at 200amps so running my generator an hour would basically charge them from dead to almost full . And still live at least a full 3000+ cycles or a minimum of 10 years but with my current t use pattern of less than 50ah a day I easily replace with the 200 watts solar . I got my 250ah bank factory direct and complete with bms was less than 600 usd.

It just isn't logistically feasible for me to use induction for cooking .

Re: Live aboards: what kind of oven do you have or wish you had?

I have a microwave, which I use frequently. However the best appliance I have on the boat is an air fryer, acquired a few months ago. I use it daily, bacon, corn bread, cooking down garlic/onion for adding to other things. Also great for reheating, better than the microwave for a lot of things.

And you will see your voltage drop rapidly while doing it
Massive loads can't be good for anything
Just because it "can" do it does not mean it can do it indefinitely.
You may not have an issue doing it this week, or year but what about next?

Only if you have a 200 amp charger.
Do you?
My Victron 5000va inverter charger only puts out around 110amps with a 7.5kva genset running.

Myself no and I would not want one i have a 75 amp alternator and a 50 amp charger that i can run off my 1kw generator however 200 amps is not out of the ordinary for alternators .
Having a bigger power trawler you know that you can unfit a really big alternator for battery charging.

With my usage my 200 watts fixed solar and 200 flex if I need it at anchor . Are plenty to cover my current usage pattern .

One thing voltage sag doesn't happen with lfp like it does with other chemistries.
I can draw at 200 amps for a full hour if my bank is fully charged . With less than .5 volt sag . ( thats the max my bms is set to allow continuous draw wise)
Thats the reason most that do go all electric in the galley do so with lfp batteries.

As to the " massive " loads think electric vehicles. If they were a bad thing for lithium based batteries the cars would not still be running strong 5 years after new.

Not trying to convince you just providing info for future decisions.

That is if Dan Andrew's ever lets you leave the harbor.
