Just an idea but keep a good eye out for vessels for sale in the Carolinas and the Chesapeake Bay area. Then you could sail her back and do any work you needed in NC. Some great craftsmen in that area for anything marine based... Better work and probably cheaper than you will find in the islands for getting the boat up to your standard.

Hello, My family and i have been cruising around in Asia and soon to depart for PNG on our 45' cutter. The only real advice I would give is to not spend all your cash on the boat. The boat is just the platform for the adventure. Ok, second thing that has come in handy, it is nice to have contact in the medical field to call for advice. doesn't have to be an emergency, it can something as simple as a burn or fever that will happen. I call my sister (nurse) as a first line of defense. Often times she is more informed than the professionals in the countries we visit
